His doctoral and postdoctoral research focused on 5th century BCE Greek historiography and its public reception. He is an expert in Gre ek epigraphy\, archaic and Hellenistic poetry\, and the didactics of class ical language.\n\nDr Bauer will be visiting the History Research Centre at Manchester Metropolitan University for a term\, where he will work with c olleagues across premodern history\, and in conjunction with our new resea rch cluster 'Materiality\, Archaeology and Antiquity'.\n\nJoin us as we op en our Classical Association series with his public lecture. Having introduced events conducted in the Parthenon Galleries of the British Museum\, the talk will focus on a new online site with BSL sto ries about Holyrood Park (a collaboration with Historic Environment Scotla nd). His recent book Performing the Kinaidos: Unm anly Men in Ancient Mediterranean Cultures. Oxford University Press\, (202 2) explores a figure called the kinaidos/cinaedus\, who is known in antiqu ity for his outrageous gender performance and sexuality as well as for his distinctive style of song and dance.\n\nDr Sapsford is also working on an cient writings about Greek and Roman dance and has written on adaptations of ancient literature by contemporary choreographers. Work on these resear ch strands has been possible thorough support from the Center for Ballet a nd the Arts at NYU and the Archive of Performances of Greek and Roman Dram a at the University of Oxford.
