Dr April Pudsey
April is Reader in Ancient History at Manchester Metropolitan University. She is a leading expert in the history of ancient childhood, enslaved children, motherhood, health and the family. April’s research utilizes ancient artefacts, demography, and documentary papyri to reconstruct life stories.
April has been working in universities across the UK for the last 19 years since she completed her PhD in Manchester. She is a keen advocate of opening up the classical and ancient worlds beyond the walls of our universities, so that more of us can engage with questions about both ancient and modern life. She has been expert consultant for The Romans, a book in the Ladybird Books series [mmu.ac.uk] designed to introduce children aged 7–11 to everyday Roman life, and has worked on a number of children’s history book series for Hachette children’s group.

Imogen Chappell
Imogen is a second-year PhD student reading classics and ancient history at the University of Manchester. Her research is primarily focused on Archaic Greek literature and mythology pertaining to Aphrodite.
Hatty Jasmon
Hatty has just finished her Master’s in Ancient History and Classics at the University of Manchester, where she also completed her Undergraduate. At UoM, she discovered a love for ancient languages and now teaches Latin and Ancient Greek to anyone who will listen. Her research includes the construction of narratives that support and defend imperial power structures, and her thesis investigated depictions of refugees in Greek and Roman tragedies. Hatty is the principal storyteller for Athena’s Owls and hopes to make Classics more accessible to all by encouraging children from all backgrounds to explore the wonderful world of myths.
Michael Melia
Michael is a student at Manchester Metropolitan University, and the Student Liaison for the Manchester Classical Association.
Dr Ursula Rothe
Ursula is a Professor of Classical Studies at the Open University. Her main area of expertise is Roman history and archaeology, and she specialises in Roman dress. Ela Hodzic
Ela is a current Ancient History and Classics Master’s student at the University of Manchester, with a research interest in Roman invective and exilic literature.

Thank you to our erstwhile Honorary President, Professor John Prag, for his years of service to the Manchester CA. Primarily a Classical archaeologist, John is interested in cross-disciplinary research, particularly in pottery analysis and facial reconstruction. He recently orientated the Alderley Edge Landscape Project for Manchester Museum and the National Trust, and is finally working again on the iconographic and literary traditions of the Oresteia. Keeper of Archaeology, Manchester Museum 1969-2004, Prof. of Archaeological Studies 2004, since 2005 Hon. Prof. of Archaeological Studies, Manchester Museum and Professor of Emeritus of Classics, University of Manchester.
